Roberta Schiff has been vegan since 1993. Before that life changing decision she spent her childhood in Ohio and Michigan, moving to Los Angeles where she graduated from Beverly Hills High School. She earned an undergraduate degree in education from The Ohio State University and a master's in Community Health Education from the University of Kansas.Roberta taught in secondary school in Los Angeles and in Shawnee Mission Kansas and then became a program director for the American Lung Association of Kansas where she trained Freedom From Smoking facilitators. In 1992 Roberta moved to NYC where she was an editor at City Family magazine and studied Macrobiotics at Gulliver's Institute. All she had learned and read came together the next year and she found much satisfaction in relinquishing both meat and dairy and living a cruelty-free and more healthful life. In 1995 she purchased a house in Rhinebeck NY and was introduced to the Mid-Hudson Vegetarian Society a few years later. Attending her first Vegetarian Summerfest in Johnstown PA in 2001 caused Rae Schlecht to tap her for president of Mid-Hudson Vegetarian Society. She served as President for six years and then as coordinator of the Society and also the Meetup group, Hudson Valley Vegans. Now both groups are run together as Hudson Valley Vegans. In addition to social events, members participate in community outreach including tabling at community and college health fairs, where she appears as Veghedda. Roberta is an ongoing presenter at Vegetarian Summerfest and has done vegan tabling and presentations at Veg expos in many location including Tampa, Boston, Austin, San Francisco and Albany. In addition to educating people about health, environment, animal cruelty and world hunger - she specializes in preparing and serving good vegan food so that a transition to a vegan lifestyle will be easy, enjoyable and lasting. Roberta is also a stand-up comic.
